Pythagorean Records: First Half Review

Just a final look at the first half. Like I said in the first Cal League Condensed of the second half, I'm going to use overall standings for this weekly entry.

This division turned out the way it was supposed to. San Jose won a few more games than expected, but that's still good enough for the division win. Modesto and Visalia still end up tied with pretty similar run differentials. Stockton and Bakersfield also ended up in the same positions with virtually the same records. Except for Stockton, all the teams in the division had roughly the same pitching ability, and San Jose's offense stands out above everyone else. Using these standings, Stockton and Bakersfield might not be as far behind Modesto and Visalia as they appear.

This division didn't turn out the same like the North did. Rancho Cucamonga and High Desert were flipped, but they're in the same neighborhood. Inland Empire and Lancaster can both feel optimistic about the second half looking at this because they apparently underachieved. The first halves still don't look very good, but they could've been better. Like San Jose, Lake Elsinore was over their expected record just a little bit, but it was still easily the best in the division.
