Engel Beltre, six others, suspended

According to Josh Leventhal at Baseball America, Engel Beltre is among seven players suspended following Monday's bench clearing brawl. Beltre had hit a walkoff home run to defeat the Visalia Rawhide, and they took exception to the manner in which he circled the bases. Ben Badler posted the video at BA, so you can decide for yourself whether Beltre did anything wrong or not. The article by Leventhal also links to this video with quotes from Beltre and Bakersfield manager Bill Haselman.

To me, I think it's pretty clear that Beltre enjoyed his home run a bit more than players typically do. The audio isn't great, so I can't tell if there words exchanged, but he clearly took his time getting around the bases. Beltre and Haselman said that it's just baseball, but his trot reminded me of Homer Simpson in the episode "Homer at the Bat". Here's how the suspensions break down:

Bakersfield:
Engel Beltre will be suspended five games, effective immediately.

After Beltre returns, Chris Gradoville is facing a four game suspension, and Doug Hogan is facing a three game suspension. They will be served separately.

Visalia:
Chris Davis will serve a five game suspension, effective immediately.

Billy Spottiswood is suspended four games beginning tonight.

Once those two return, Alfredo Marte and Christian Beltre will each serve three game suspensions.
