Cal League Condensed: 8/17 Preview

The off days are in the rear view mirror, and it's time for the contenders to separate themselves from the teams that don't belong. They have 21 games to do so, and it starts tonight.

San Jose Giants v. Visalia Rawhide 7:00 PM PT
Jorge Bucardo v. Pat Corbin
Notes: San Jose was swept by Modesto, and Visalia won their series against Bakersfield... Jorge Bucardo struck out six in his first start but only has five strikeouts in his two starts since... Bucardo has 10 walks in 16 innings including seven in 4.1 IP against Stockton... Pat Corbin has only pitched 11 innings in three starts with Visalia but hasn't allowed a run... His worst start with the Mavericks was against Rancho Cucamonga, when he allowed six runs in six innings... Orangel Arenas is 1-1 in August despite only allowing one run in 13 innings... Arenas allowed six earned runs in five innings in his last start against High Desert... Here's the deal with the standings for the rest of the year. The first elimination number will be for the second half title, and the second will be for the wild card. That will be the same for the magic numbers. Because of this, some teams could have a magic number and elimination number on the same line. I won't have numbers for San Jose and Lake Elsinore because they already have playoff spots. Hopefully I don't confuse myself with all of this and have accurate numbers for you guys.
