A's Extend Stockton Through 2014

Earlier today it was announced that Oakland extended Stockton's player development contract through 2014. It was set to expire after 2012.

Stockton has been Oakland's California League affiliate since 2005. In that span, the team is 348-352 in the regular season with three playoff appearances, including the 2008 league championship.

Since becoming affiliated with the A's, Stockton has produced a number of major leaguers, including Kurt Suzuki, Daric Barton, Brad Ziegler, Dallas Braden, Cliff Pennington, Vin Mazzaro, Andrew Bailey, Brett Anderson and Trevor Cahill, among others. Anderson and Cahill were key players on the championship team, which hasn't had any position player prospects reach the majors yet.

"We are delighted to continue our relationship with the Ports and the Stockton community through at least the 2014 season," said A's vice president and general manager Billy Beane. "As a Single-A affiliate, Stockton provides us with an ideal situation in regards to a first-class playing facility, a supportive fan base and its close proximity to the Bay Area. We look forward to continuing this very successful association."

This news comes in front of what should be a pretty interesting season for PDC's. As Andrew Bettencourt explained in an article a few days ago that I linked to on twitter, seven PDC's expire after this season. Stockton's was one of the ones that didn't, so there could still be plenty of affiliation shuffling before 2011.
