Ryan Ortiz, STO- People are probably tired of me saying this, but Ortiz had a great half and needs to play more than 36 games in the second half.
Paul Goldschmidt, VIS: He needs to improve his plate approach, but he hits a lot of power and is a key part of Visalia's lineup.
Marc Krauss, VIS: Krauss may be in a slump now, but he was on fire at the start of the season, and it looked like he was starting to improve in June too.
Stock Up
Engel Beltre, BAK: His plate approach isn't that much better, but he is striking out less and hitting the ball better in his second year with Bakersfield.
Johermyn Chavez, HD: He still needs to work on his plate approach, but Chavez is hitting very well for a second consecutive year. Hitting well away from home too.
Rich Poythress, HD: Poythress is hitting for more power than people might've expected, home and away. His plate approach has been good so far.
Dennis Raben, HD: It's a small sample size still, but Raben is off to a good start after missing all of 2009 with a knee injury. Let's see if he can hit away from home in the second half.
Kyle Seager, HD: Seager actually hits better on the road. He's been better against lefty pitchers too so far. He does a good job getting on base before High Desert's power hitters.
Tony Delmonico, IE: Delmonico is on the DL at the moment, but before his injury he was having a solid year at the plate. Oddly enough, he hit for more power in the Midwest League than the Cal League.
Kyle Russell, IE/CHA: Russell just had an incredible stint with the 66ers. He was a man among boys, and now he gets a nice challenge at AA.
Vince Belnome, LE: Belnome is having a solid first full season in pro baseball. He needs to improve against lefties if he doesn't want to become a platoon player.
Drew Cumberland, LE/SA: Cumberland is finally healthy, and it paid dividends for Lake Elsinore in the first half. He certainly earned his promotion to AA.
Jordan Pacheco, MOD: His season is pretty similar to last year, and I'll lean towards stock up because he's doing it at a higher level and walking a lot.
Ben Paulsen, MOD: Sometimes players in their first full season are tough to judge, and Paulsen is a good example. Generally, first basemen need to hit for more power though.
Tim Wheeler, MOD: Wheeler needs to put the ball in play more, but his plate approach has been good, especially if he can cut down on his strikeouts a little bit.
Dillon Baird, RC: Baird was off to a hot start in May before suffering a wrist injury. He's currently rehabbing and could be key for the Quakes down the stretch.
Brandon Belt, SJ: What else can I say? He's been fantastic. I'd like to see him at a higher level and see how he responds to the challenge.
Grant Green, STO: Green has improved every month this season, and he still has plenty left in his game to develop.
Stock Down
Mike Bianucci, BAK: This is the second season Bianucci has spent significant time with Bakersfield, and the results haven't improved. He does have power though.
Tommy Mendonca, BAK: Mendonca is definitely a popular player in the league, but the College World Series Outstanding Player of 2008 hasn't played well in his first full year as a pro.
Pedro Baez, IE: This is his second year with Inland Empire, but he hasn't improved much. Currently rehabbing from an injury with the Dodgers' rookie league team.
Austin Gallagher, IE: Recovering from a labrum injury is not easy, and Gallagher is not the same player he was just a couple seasons ago with the 66ers. Time is still on his side though.
Jaff Decker, LE: I'll give Decker a pass for the first half due to his injury, but he has to start producing at the level he's capable of in the second half.
Allan Dykstra, LE: Coming into the season, Dykstra's best characteristic was his patient plate approach, but this year he's walking less and striking out a lot more.
Jay Austin, LAN: The overall numbers are slightly better, but I'm inclined to believe they're a little inflated due to Clear Channel Stadium. His plate approach is still unrefined.
Mike Zuanich, MOD: Putting Zuanich in this category was tough because the sample size is so small. Due to his age, he needs to perform in the second half.
Alexi Amarista, RC: Amarista was a tough call. I like him a lot, but he's not hitting as well as he did at the start of the season. He's walking less than he did last season.
Jake Rife, RC/ARA: It looks like Rife will be spending a second season in short season leagues after a short, unsuccessful stint with the Quakes.
Ehire Adrianza, SJ: Adrianza has improved each month, but his overall season numbers still aren't great. Defense is his strong suit, but he has to be able to hit a little.
Francisco Peguero, SJ: His speed has been a great asset in San Jose's lineup, but he might walk less than every other player in baseball.
Jeremy Barfield, STO: Barfield's numbers have been very similar to last year's, but there's a big difference between the Midwest and Cal Leagues. He has cut down on his strikeouts a little though.
Jason Christian, STO: Christian only played in a handful of games before being placed on the DL with an injury, but he's on a rehab stint right now.
Tyler Ladendorf, STO: He hit well in August, but after being yo-yoed between Stockton and Sacramento a couple times, Ladendorf started struggling.
Rossmel Perez- Perez has a nice approach at the plate, but he doesn't hit for much power. Not like that's the most important quality for a catcher to have, but his defense is statistically about average.
Ryan Wheeler, VIS: The Diamondbacks would probably like to see more power from a corner player, but it's his first full professional year.
